Gloria Estefan to Guest Star on ‘Glee’

Posted by Laura on Nov-30-2011 under Cast & Crew, Glee Episode Spoilers, News

Yesterday we told you how Ricky Martin was in talks with Glee bosses about guest starring as McKinley’s new Spanish teacher, and according to reports, music legend Gloria Estefan is rumored to be set to guest star on the show in an upcoming episode set to air in January.

Estefan is currently in negotiations to play none other than the mother of Santana Lopez. No doubt this news will please fans eager to meet Santana’s parents and see how they deal with her recent revelation regarding her sexuality.

The singing sensation took to Twitter earlier today, hinting truth to the circulating reports. She tweeted:

Hey M’Tweets! Did anyone else see Glee last night? Santana could really use a sympathetic mommy right about now, don’t you think?? Lol!

What do you think of Gloria playing Santana’s mother?

The People Behind the Glee Character Twitter Accounts!

Posted by Tinkers on Mar-21-2010 under News

A new article from E! Online has surfaced all about the character twitters from Glee and other shows! I’ve always wondered who posts those HILARIOUS @S_SylvesterGLEE gems. Turns out there is an entire industry devoted to providing authentic updates from the voices of TV characters. Dream job? Check!

The show The Office has a few characters with Twitter accounts. So does Glee and Heroes. Is it the actors doing those updates in character?
—Ehren, via Facebook

As much as I would love to believe that a robot from Caprica is available to answer all my questions about The Future in an alternate universe, no. There’s a real person behind Serge—someone who, I am scandalized to report, has never lived on Caprica and who has, probably, never met the Graystones, much less an Adama.

So might that person even possibly be Eric Stoltz? Well…

…probably not.

There’s an actual industry out there devoted, in large part, to blogging, MySpacing, Facebooking and tweeting in the voice of your favorite TV characters. (Heroes‘ Hiro Nakamura is over on the Yamagato Fellowship page, updating us on his trips back in time.)

The practice usually falls under the marketing campaign for a TV show or movie. To get that ball rolling, the movie studio or production house usually hires an outside company specializing in social media marketing. That company, in turn, may hire freelance writers, or use its own in-house people to channel the character in question.

Some characters’ tweets are quite responsive, but other updates can take weeks or even months of planning and approval from several parties, including the social media marketing company, the network and the individual show or movie producers.

In other words, it might be more complicated than you think to write like Rachel from Glee. It also may explain why Rachel from Glee has had relatively few Twitter updates.

So does it pay to tweet like an imaginary person?

Perhaps. Writers may charge a day rate of a few hundred bucks, we’re told by sources familiar with these sorts of deals, or get a couple hundred per post, depending on the gig.

No word on the going rate for Twitter updates on Caprica.

Glee Cast Hard At Work…

… and this is why we love them. XD
Thanks to Cory Montieth (@frankenteen) for tweeting this with twitvid!

Update: Here’s another of them walking in slow motion. This time, they’re in costume. Pay special attention to what Amber and Chris are wearing… spoiler!
Edit: It looks like Cory already deleted his tweet for the video, but hasn’t deleted it from twitvid yet. I bet someone gets in trouble for this! (Good thing I downloaded a copy of the video already! Hehe…)

Fox Announces “Tweet-peats” for Glee

Posted by Rob on Aug-31-2009 under News

Glee TwitterAnother Tweet-peat next week! Check out Fox’s Glee page for all the details!

Update: If you’re a fan of Glee on Facebook, check out these pics (and more) and this short video of the cast and crew getting ready for the east coast tweet-peat! Also, there are these two vids (beginning & end) for the west coast.

Are you excited for repeats of Glee on Fox? Well you should be! Fox has teamed up with Twitter and announced that repeats of episodes of Glee and Fringe are now “Tweet-peats”. During the re-run episodes, live Twitter feeds from the cast and crew will scroll across the bottom of the screen. Also, you can follow the Twitter feeds online and even tweet the cast live!

For Glee, the first Tweet-peat will be on Friday, Sept. 4th at 9/8c pm. They will re-air the pilot (with the extended pilot airing 2 days prior on Wednesday, Sept. 2nd) and some members of the cast will be tweeting along with behind the scenes info and maybe even a couple mini-spoilers. ;)

The east and west coast airings will have different tweeters, while the “heartland” will have the east coast tweets. The west coast airing will be tweeted by Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer and Amber Riley, and the east coast airing will be tweeted by Lea Michele, Kevin McHale and Mark Salling.

This new spin on repeats sounds pretty fun! Sound off with your opinion in the comments section below.
