Jenna Ushkowitz Wants Tina to Join the Cheerios!

Posted by Rob on Nov-18-2009 under Interviews, Jenna Ushkowitz

Jenna UshkowitzJenna Ushkowitz was interviewed by the NY Post‘s PopWrap about Tina’s stutter, what happens in “Ballads” and more! Make sure that you read the whole interview to hear what Jenna thinks about Tina’s stutter being fake and what we can expect for the rest of the season.

PW: Does Tina get any more solos?
Jenna: “True Colors” is Tina’s — and I haven’t heard the extended version that will be on the CD, just the TV cut, so I’m actually really excited to hear that too.

PW: Have you given any thought to what you’d like Tina to sing in next year’s Madonna-only episode?
Jenna: Oh, there are a lot. I would love to do “Frozen” since it goes along with dark Tina. I’d like to see Kurt do “Material Girl!” Or maybe “Ray of Light,” “Open Your Heart,” “Like A Virgin” — they’re all classics. But our writers will do it right, I have faith!

PW: What else would you like to see in the second half of season one?
Jenna: I would love to see where Tina comes from because I’ve created my own backstory where she’s rebelling against her mother more than anything. I don’t think her room is filled with dark posters and heavy metal stuff — I just think this is a phase she’s going through. There’s definitely a lot of options for all the characters to evolve and change next year. I’m totally rooting for Tina to join The Cheerios or something crazy like that!

PW: Oh god, that would be amazing!
Jenna: It would be hilarious to see her with that high ponytail — but I have to keep the blue hair! I love my blue hair!

Kevin McHale Likes Artie & Tina Together!

Posted by Rob on Nov-12-2009 under Interviews, Kevin McHale

Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale at the World SeriesKevin McHale was interviewed by the NY Post‘s PopWrap about what happened in “Wheels” and so much more! It is one of the best interviews with a single cast member I have read so far, which is really saying something! Make sure that you read the whole interview since it also talks about making the wheelchair musical number, the upcoming Madonna episode and what we can expect for the rest of the original 13 episodes.

PW: Had you been told about Artie’s crush on Tina before reading it in the script?
Kevin: Kind of. From day one Ryan always said that he thought Artie and Tina should be together, so we assumed it would eventually happen. SO if you look back, we’re always sitting next to one another. So Jenna and I were always waiting — it’ll happen in the next episode, in the next episode … but neither of us guessed how it would turn out.

PW: Which was more shocking Tina’s fake stutter or Artie’s reaction?
Kevin: Well, we kind of figured her stutter would go away, but we never know what to think on that show. So I’m going to say Artie’s reaction was more shocking. At first I couldn’t figure out why he was being so dramatic. But I really think Artie fell for Tina because they were set apart by their disabilities. They’re already kind of outcasts being in glee, but within that group they shared a connection. So he based their whole relationship on that and when it went away, Artie didn’t know what to do.

PW: How long can he stay mad?
Kevin: I don’t know, we haven’t shot it yet. But we have our ideas of what should happen.

PW: And that would be?
Kevin: I like Artie and Tina together because Jenna and I are best friends anyway. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.

PW: Another huge reveal last night was the discovery of Sue’s sister.
Kevin: I think that’s one of the best things the show has ever done.

PW: Not gunna lie, I cried from that reveal all the way through to the end.
Kevin: Oh, so did we. The cast watches all the episodes together and the first half has some of the best comedy that we’ve done so far in it, but then it turns. You get Kurt and his father, Artie and Tina and Sue and her sister. It’s just back-to-back and everyone started crying. It was insane. When you read this stuff in a script it’s different — obviously we know something’s there, but to see it on screen is amazing. Especially Sue, who you’re wondering about the whole time. It could have been really bad, it’s such a sensitive subject, but I think it turns out to be one of the best moments in the show.

PW: It’s another amazing example of how inclusive the show is to everyone.
Kevin: Absolutely. And I’m so proud to be a part of something that’s not afraid to tackle taboo subjects. Especially with Sue’s sister having Down Syndrome. I don’t know whether another show would be brave enough to handle that.

Popwatch Updates on The Cheno, Julia Roberts and Glee’s Spring Festival Parade

Posted by Rob on Oct-26-2009 under News

Kristin ChenowethPopWatch has some awesome news for fans of Kristin Chenoweth! She will be returning for at least one of the “back nine” episodes that has yet to be filmed. Also, Julia Roberts is a Gleek and Ryan Murphy is writing an episode (which sounds hilarious) in response to Glee getting bumped from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

We have even MORE Glee news to deliver, PopWatchers: Emmy winner Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies) will reprise her role as the boozy glee alum April Rhodes for at least one episode in 2010. (Listen to her sing “Maybe This Time” in the window below.) [Watch on EW.com]

Plus, Glee has gotten the stamp of approval of one of Hollywood’s biggest stars: Julia Roberts. Co-creator Ryan Murphy, who is currently filming Eat, Pray, Love with Roberts in Bali, tells EW, “We’re on location here and she’s watched episodes and has quite enjoyed them.” I could totally see Roberts being a major Gleek.

And finally, Murphy also says that he’s planning on using the whole NBC/Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade snafu into an upcoming episode. Look for the glee club to get denied from having a float in the spring festival parade thanks to the villainous Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), standing in for NBC.

PopWatch Blog Reviews Glee

Posted by Rob on Jul-14-2009 under Glee Episode Previews, Glee Episode Spoilers

Yet another review from someone who saw the advance screening of episodes 2 & 3. The official post can be found on the PopWatch Blog on EW.com, here.

Lea & CoryIt’s a (not so) little known fact that I love myself some Glee. I even re-watched the pilot with my family during a recent vacation trip to the beach; the Stacks enjoy a good musical number in between our poor attempts at tanning.

So I was beyond thrilled last week when Fox screened the next TWO(!) Gleeepisodes last week at their headquarters in New York. Here’s a little preview of what you all can expect in September when the show (finally) begins airing (SPOILER ALERT). The first ep back is called “Showmance,” and mainly focuses on the relationship between Rachel (Lea Michele) and Finn (Cory Monteith) — both pictured. But the highlight is a raunchy glee club performance of “Push It” during a school assembly; as Sandy Ryerson (Stephen Tobolowsky) said in the pilot, “It’s genius!”

Speaking of Sandy, he pops back up in the next episode, “Preggers.” The star of this episode though is Kurt (Chris Colfer) who does a hilarious version of Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).” He also has a wonderfully touching scene near the end of the episode with his ultra-butch father, played by Mike O’Malley. Oh, and there’s a major pregnancy announcement for one of the characters and it will probably come as a surprise.

All in all, they were really really fun episodes. The quality seen in the pilot definitely does not waver. If anything, the show seems to be finding its footing and tone.

So, PopWatchers, does this make you even more excited for Glee? Have you been re-watching the pilot?
