The cast of Glee are taking over this year’s GLAAD Media Awards!
Naya Rivera took the stage in 2011 as host of the GLAAD Media Awards in San Francisco, and clearly impressed all the right people. The actress, who’s character Santana dealt with a very public outing and less than accepting family members this season, has been invited back as host of the 23rd annual GLAAD Media Awards in NYC on March 24th, along with Glee co-star Cory Monteith.
The awards will also have a portion held in San Francisco on June 2nd, which will be hosted by Glee’sDianna Agron.
It’s a sad day, Gleeks. The annual Glee tour will not be happening this year to allow the cast time to relax. The Hollywood Reporter is saying that the Glee cast will receive a two month break, but a one-night benefit concert is being planned in California.
A spokesperson for Fox told The Hollywood Reporter, “We currently have no plans of touring the cast this summer.”
The one night event will be at the Hollywood Bowl and will raise money for Glee‘s Give a Note Foundation, which raises money for the arts education in middle schools and high schools. The goal is to raise $10 million this year.
The cast’s various projects would most likely interfere with the tour. Such projects include Chris’ new book as well as new movie. Also, Amber and Naya are gearing up for the release of their new albums.
It should be noted that Ryan Murphy, who usually goes on tour with the cast, is also extremely busy with his three other shows: The Glee Project, American Horror Story, and an upcoming comedy show called The New Normal on NBC.
What’re your thoughts on this announcement? Do you wish the cast were touring?
The past few weeks have been a constant whirlwind of news about Glee‘s future: there will be a Season 4; characters are graduating yet also staying on the show; the format will be a completely awesome and novel concept. Now that the winds are dying down and the fate of graduating fan favorites like Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Cory Monteith, and Naya Rivera have been confirmed, questions start to be raised. Questions like: what about the rest of the cast?
The truth is, nobody knows yet, not even the cast themselves. When asked at the Fox TCA All-Star party, Mark Salling confided that he has no idea what his future holds.
“It’s just nice to really be able to work with the people I do and have the job I do. I feel blessed. And if they want to have me back, I’d love to.”
Sounds pretty good… after all, who wouldn’t want more Puck? Meanwhile, could there be room for more cast additions? Rumors are floating around that Grant Gustin, currently playing meerkat-faced Sebastian, is being picked up as a series regular for next season. Although Fox cautions that “we are not finalizing season four regulars until May” and Grant himself tweeted caution that series regular status hasn’t been made official yet, it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of Kurt’s rival next year.
There you have it, Gleeks! What do you think? Can you wait until May to find out who’s staying and who’s leaving? Do you think Sebastian should be added to the ranks of full-time characters? Leave a comment below!

Stars of Glee have partnered with Vogue to promote the third annual ‘Fashion’s Night Out’, a global fashion event that combines the fashion of top designers with the star power of celebrities with the excitement of reinventing yourself with unique takes on the latest trend. “For the third year in a row, celebrities, designers, and stars will perform and mingle with shoppers as they take part in FNO-exclusive events and snap up special designs.”
FNO will feature designers and brands frequently seen on Glee characters and Glee stars alike, including Anthopologie, Betsey Johnson, J. Crew, and Juicy Couture, among others, during the September 8th event. But before that, Glee stars released a similarly stylish PSA. The PSA, which aired August 23, featured Lea Michele covering David Bowie’s song ‘Fashion’ along with the rest of the cast, in a video designed by Vogue editor Tabitha Simmons.
Follow Fashion’s Night Out on Twitter (@FNOnyc) or check out their homepage (fashionsnightout.com) for more information about the event, or check out the Glee cast’s music video below, and be sure to stay tuned for more from Fashion’s Night Out!
The Glee cast recently hosted a benefit for the Rape Treatment Center at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center, and in light of the recent suicides from LGBTQ youth, Cory Monteith and Matthew Morrison were asked to voice their concerns. See what they had to say in this video from Entertainment Tonight.
“I’m sure that’s something that [Ryan Murphy] wants to talk about,” Matthew Morrison told us on Sunday, answering how “Glee” would respond to the problem of gay bullying in schools across the U.S. Murphy is the show’s executive producer.
The RTC has dedicated itself to advancing the care of rape victims as well as preventing the occurrence of sexual assault, and Cory Monteith told us that he was glad to be a part of the fundraiser: “It’s really important for a show like ‘Glee,’ with all the exposure that it’s getting, to start to bring important causes like this out in the open,” Monteith told us.
“It’s shedding a light on a subject that a lot of people keep in the closet,” said Morrison.
While it appears from the video that Chris Colfer was absent at the event, when asked via Twitter if he would be making an It Gets Better Project video, he responded saying that one was in the works. Later, he tweeted: “Just shot an #ItGetsBetter PSA with @TrevorProject! It’s so important we make it known there is love and understanding out there!” When the video goes online, we’ll be sure to post it.
Today is our very first Flashback Friday! From now on, every Friday (at least, that’s our plan), we will be bringing you a Glee-related blast from the past. It could be an old (but still awesome) Glee video/article that you may have missed. Or maybe, as is the case with today, it will be something related to a Glee cast member’s work before Glee.
For today, we’re bringing you a commercial that Cory Monteith made for Western Canada Lottery’s lotto game EXTRA. “With more than 8 million EXTRA winners in the west every year, that’s a whole lot of cheering.” At least now we know what Finn would look like in a Cheerios uniform!
Cory Monteith was spotted by a Gleek at the HBC Lounge in Canada, just in time for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver! If you ever spot a Glee cast member, send us your picture at Rob@GleeFan.com, along with your name and where you live (optional) so that we can give you credit. :)
