SAG Recap: Naya on Brittana, Jane Juggling, and a Thigh High Slit

Posted by Genica on Jan-30-2012 under Jane Lynch, Lea Michele, Mark Salling, Naya Rivera, News

Awards season is nearing its end as the Screen Actors Guild Awards was broadcasted from Los Angeles Sunday Night. Although Glee did not win the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series (congrats Modern Family!) there was much to excited about from the red carpet.

Lea and Naya at the SAG AwardsThe Glee cast looked gorgeous as they walked down the red carpet. Lea Michele and Naya Rivera were ranked one and four, respectively as the “Hottest Stars of the Night” according to the E! Heat Gauge.

Lea lapped the competition with almost twice as many Tweet “votes” than the second place celebrity who just happened to be George Clooney! It wasn’t hard to figure out why she placed first. She looked sultry in her gray Versace dress with a slit that bordered upon her upper thigh. Naya, on the other hand, looked more ethereal in a beaded cream dress by Naeem Khan.

Check out photos of the Glee cast at the SAG Awards, including a candid of Cory Monteith meeting George Clooney!

On the red carpet, Naya gave little hints about the upcoming Brittana storyline. She revealed to Kristin Dos Santos from Watch with Kristin that the episode will contain some “very, very cute moments.” According to Kristin, Naya sported a huge “Cheshire grin while talking about Brittany and Santana in the Valentine’s Day episode.”

Elsewhere on the red carpet, the rest of the cast mingled with other reporters as well. Mark Salling joked with E! News correspondent Ross Mathews on how he manages to play a high schooler:

“I’m 17 years old… 30-17, I think is the terminology”

Check out Mark and Jenna Ushkowitz’s solo interviews, and Chord Overstreet & Amber Riley’s joint interview!

Lastly, do you remember Jane Lynch at the 2012 Golden Globes juggling in the GlamCam 360? Well at this year’s SAG Awards, E! News correspondent Giuliana Rancic challenged Jane to a juggling duel. Both showed their inner circus skills, but Guiliana outlasted Jane. Either way, thats way longer than I can juggle!

Even though Glee didn’t win a SAG award Sunday night, there was so much for us Gleeks to be happy about and enough content to keep us entertained until Tuesday’s Michael Jackson themed episode.

Season 4: Who’s Staying?

The past few weeks have been a constant whirlwind of news about Glee‘s future: there will be a Season 4; characters are graduating yet also staying on the show; the format will be a completely awesome and novel concept. Now that the winds are dying down and the fate of graduating fan favorites like Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Cory Monteith, and Naya Rivera have been confirmed, questions start to be raised. Questions like: what about the rest of the cast?

The truth is, nobody knows yet, not even the cast themselves. When asked at the Fox TCA All-Star party, Mark Salling confided that he has no idea what his future holds.

“It’s just nice to really be able to work with the people I do and have the job I do. I feel blessed. And if they want to have me back, I’d love to.”

Sounds pretty good… after all, who wouldn’t want more Puck? Meanwhile, could there be room for more cast additions? Rumors are floating around that Grant Gustin, currently playing meerkat-faced Sebastian, is being picked up as a series regular for next season. Although Fox cautions that “we are not finalizing season four regulars until May” and Grant himself tweeted caution that series regular status hasn’t been made official yet, it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of Kurt’s rival next year.

There you have it, Gleeks! What do you think? Can you wait until May to find out who’s staying and who’s leaving? Do you think Sebastian should be added to the ranks of full-time characters? Leave a comment below!

Glee Spin-off is Axed, Graduating Seniors Staying on Show?

Posted by Genica on Jan-08-2012 under Chris Colfer, Lea Michele, News, Ryan Murphy

LM CM AR kevin reillyOne day after the Gleek Twittersphere trended the topic “Keep The Glee Cast“, Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly revealed major details about the future of Glee’s next season.

According to Matt Mitovich of TVLine, Reilly revealed to the press present at the Television Critics Association winter tour on Sunday that:

“We are graduating the characters that are [due] to graduate, and what’s come out of it is [series boss] Ryan [Murphy] and the guys have come
up with a really cool idea. There will not be a Glee spinoff but those characters will graduate and it’s led to a very interesting idea that I think is going to really give us something cool to dig into next season.”

For those of you Gleeks hoping for the Rachel Berry, Kurt Hummel at NYADA spin-off, sorry! The spin-off is not happening.

There is no word yet on whether the whole “Graduating” cast is staying, but Reilly did specifically mention that Lea Michele is confirmed for next season. Rachel Berry fans rejoice! When asked about the future of the rest of the seniors, specifically Chris Colfer, Reilly offered:

“What I said before is creatively, we’d want everybody back. I’ve got to look at the contractual situation for all of those. And we will.”

Peculiar. Should the fans of Kurt Hummel and Co. be worrying right now? For the most part, no.

Plans for the show are mum, but speculation is already running high. Among speculation is that Rachel and Kurt do go off to NYADA while other ideas involve some of the seniors becoming teachers. Personally, I’m going to throw Jonathan Groff‘s Jessie St. James back into the Season 4 mix. Unfortunately, we’ll all have to wait towards the end of Season 3 for the big reveal, but as Reilly puts it:

“I think it’s going to be a good thing for the show. … It’s cool. It’s different.”

McKinley High Adds a 2nd Glee Club?!

Posted by Genica on Sep-17-2011 under Glee Episode Spoilers, Idina Menzel, Interviews, Lea Michele, News

The target on New Directions’ back keeps getting bigger. They not only have to deal with rival show choirs such as Carmel High’s Vocal Adrenaline, but will also have to compete on home turf against a second McKinley High glee club!

According to an interview with Give Me My Remote, Lea Michele reveals that Shelby Corcoran played by Idina Menzel will be the coach of an unidentified McKinley glee club.

Photo Credit: FoxWhen asked about the storyline of a second glee club, Michele at first acted coy, but after a repetition of the question, Michele revealed:

Oh, yes, Shelby’s creating another glee club. My storyline hasn’t kind of connected to that yet, but I know [for] some of the other characters, it has. My storyline is sort of separate from that.

The last we heard from Ms. Corcoran was in the Glee Season 1 finale, “Journey to Regionals.” In that episode she adopted Beth and declined Rachel’s desperate plea to co-direct New Directions with Mr. Schuester. Then in mid-July, it was revealed that Ms. Corcoran would be coming back as a teacher at McKinley. It only seemed logical that she would take Rachel’s advice and co-direct New Directions.

While the intentions of the second glee club remains unclear (are they a complementary club or competition), the addition does guarantee one thing: DRAMA!

How will Rachel deal with her biological mother leading another glee club at her school? Does anyone from New Directions transfer over? Will this be the home for The Glee Project winners? Sound off below!

McKinley High Tackles a School Musical

Over the course of 2 Seasons of Glee, we’ve seen and heard our New Directions belt out show tunes from various beloved Broadway musicals such as Wicked and Rent. Now in Season 3, we finally get to see them partake in one.

Photo Credit: Glee's FacebookAccording to an interview with the The Hollywood Reporter at Fox‘s Eco Casino Party, Lea Michele revealed that McKinley High is producing a musical that the members of New Directions will be auditioning for. When asked what musical they were producing, she would not give any specifics, but Michele revealed:

[It's a] classic Broadway musical with one female lead and one male lead.

With that being said, drama is sure to ensue as the members of New Directions fight for the leads. In regards to Rachel Berry’s main objective, Michele revealed:

[Rachel is] vying for the lead in the school musical and she has a little competition with Mercedes (Amber Riley).

Not only is competition for the female lead stiff, the competition for the male lead is just as tough, if not more. Chris Colfer‘s Kurt, Cory Monteith‘s Finn, and Darren Criss‘ Blaine are all in the running for the top honor. Yes, you read that right! Blaine is auditioning for the musical! That means Blaine will eventually make the transfer over from Dalton Academy to McKinley High in Season 3.

One person notably missing from the competition for male lead is Kevin McHale‘s Artie. Instead of participating as an actor, Artie has been credited as co-producer of the musical alongside Dot Marie Jones‘ Coach Beiste and Jayma Mays‘ Ms. Pillsbury. The trio will be holding auditions and call backs to see who they’ll cast.

Glee yet again continues its streak of arts education by informing the viewers of the hardships that accompany an entertainment production. Some of the issues sure to arise during this new story arc is the heartbreak of not getting a part and the discrimination of typecasting. Colfer reveals that typecasting might have an influence on the casting decision. In regards to Kurt’s reaction to the situation, Colfer said:

It’s a really interesting learning process that he goes through, learning that people can’t see him as anything but him.

Will typecasting play a role in the outcome? Who do you think the trio will award the lead female and male roles? What musical do you want them to produce? Sound off below!

Glee Stars’ GQ Photo Shoot Gets Backlash

Posted by Stephanie on Oct-22-2010 under Cast & Crew, Cory Monteith, Dianna Agron, Lea Michele

GQA recent photo shoot with GQ magazine has stirred up controversy for the racy attire and poses Glee cast members Dianna Agron, Lea Michele and Cory Monteith adorn for the shoot. Major media including Arts Beat for The New York Times, The Huffington Post and Broadway.com have all written on the photos and the controversy that has followed.

The Parents Television Council released a statement slamming ‘Glee‘ producers from Tim Winter, the council’s president stating, “It is disturbing that GQ, which is explicitly written for adult men, is sexualizing the actresses who play high school-aged characters on ‘Glee‘ in this way. It borders on pedophilia. By authorizing this kind of near-pornographic display, the creators of the program have established their intentions on the show’s direction. And it isn’t good for families.”

In the wake of a media news storm, Dianna posted a response on her blog about the recent experience:

Tree HouseIn the land of Madonna, Britney, Miley, Gossip Girl, other public figures and shows that have pushed the envelope and challenged the levels of comfort in their viewers and fans…we are not the first. Now, in perpetuating the type of images that evoke these kind of emotions, I am sorry. If you are hurt or these photos make you uncomfortable, it was never our intention. And if your eight-year-old has a copy of our GQ cover in hand, again I am sorry. But I would have to ask, how on earth did it get there?

For GQ, they asked us to play very heightened versions of our school characters. A ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’ version. At the time, it wasn’t my favorite idea, but I did not walk away. I must say, I am trying to live my life with a sharpie marker approach. You can’t erase the strokes you’ve made, but each step is much bolder and more deliberate. I’m moving forward from this one, and after today, putting it to rest. I am only myself, I can only be me. These aren’t photos I am going to frame and put on my desk, but hey, nor are any of the photos I take for magazines. Those are all characters we’ve played for this crazy job, one that I love and am so fortunate to have, each and every day. If you asked me for my dream photo shoot, I’d be in a treehouse, in a wild costume, war-paint and I’d be playing with my pet dragon. Until then…..

Can somebody please put Dianna in charge of a photo shoot? It would be epic.
