Chris Colfer Says Season 3 is ‘Intense’

Posted by Mary on Sep-06-2011 under Cast & Crew, Chris Colfer, Glee Episode Spoilers, Interviews, News

Credit: FOX BroadcastingAs Season 3 draws closer, new interviews with the cast are popping up everywhere!  In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Chris Colfer spoke about Kurt’s arc this season, Blaine and Kurt’s relationship, and the season 3 premiere.  Some highlights from the interview include:

So what will Kurt’s arc be this season?
One thing with Kurt that they’re tapping into — which I’ve never seen done on TV — they’re really having Kurt having go through the levels of acceptance. He learned to accept himself in the first and second season and now I think he’s really still struggling to still find acceptance from others, unfortunately.

Is Blaine going to McKinley?
Well… you shall see.

Can you tease his storyline a bit?
[Laughs] He is entering a new area of school, or attempting [to enter] into a new area of school and responsibility that we have not seen him enter yet.

Chris also mentioned that he already had to receive medical attention while working on a musical number, saying:

I had my fifth visit straight from set to hospital the other day. The fifth time where I had to leave set and go to the hospital.

With only two weeks left until the premiere, we can’t wait to see how Kurt’s storyline evolves!  If you had your way, what would you want to happen with Kurt this season?

Chris Colfer sells TV show pilot to Disney

Posted by Dani on Apr-23-2011 under Chris Colfer, News

Chris Colfer sells TV pilot to Disney It’s been a very busy week for Chris Colfer! After being named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential people, news also broke that Chris sold the screenplay for a TV show to the Disney Channel. The screenplay, based on the children’s book The Leftover Little Witch by Florence Laughlin, revolves around a young witch named Felina who is taken in by a normal family after falling from her malfunctioning broomstick on the night of Halloween.

“I got the book on a Friday night and I adapted the screenplay by Sunday night. I got so into it. I wrote like a 102 page screenplay in two days,” says Chris about the project, which was brought to his attention after his agent’s husband bought the rights to the book and knew of Chris’s desire to write. Although Chris isn’t sure what his official title will be once the show gets rolling, he’s certain that he’ll be involved as some kind of creative force.

This isn’t Chris’s first foray in writing either as he also wrote the screenplay for Struck By Lightning, a film that is scheduled to film later this summer and if Chris — who calls himself “a born storyteller” — has any say in it, it looks like we can expect to see a lot more from him soon.

Chris Colfer named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2011

Posted by Rob on Apr-21-2011 under Chris Colfer, News, Videos

Chris Colfer - Photo: Justin Stephens for TIMEThe amazingly talented Chris Colfer made the 2011 Time 100, Time Magazine‘s list of the 100 most influential people of 2011.

Through his role on Glee as Kurt Hummel, a gay teen suffering from bullying in high school, Chris has influenced millions across the world. Chris has been very outspoken about the bullying of gay students through his support of The Trevor Project, and he sends a positive message to anyone having a rough time fitting in, especially in high school.

Read what Chris Colfer’s co-star Dianna Agron (who plays Quinn Fabray) had to say:

Chris has wanted to be an actor, as he says, “since I was an embryo,” which gave him the determination to say, “Yes, I can,” despite the many who had said no. Chris, 20, lives by extreme truth, speaking out against the epidemic of bullying that he, too, faced in high school. The honesty that he infuses into his Glee character, Kurt, leaves you reeling. Our cast is blessed to hear things like “Your character has helped me through this, or helped me do that,” but none more so than Chris. To witness the power he gives to his audience firsthand? It’s wonderful.

GleeFan Exclusive: Chris Colfer Q&A on Glee, his plans for the future and more!

Posted by Rob on Apr-01-2011 under Chris Colfer, GleeFan.com Exclusives, Interviews

Chris Colfer at the Fox TCA PartyFrom the thousands of question submissions, here’s our exclusive Q&A with Chris Colfer where he answers your questions on Glee, his upcoming project Struck By Lightning, his high school days, favorite music, life after Glee, being a gay actor, and so much more. Enjoy!
———

Q: “What’s the typical production schedule for a given day?” – Murray C.
A: It just depends on what we’re filming. We usually work in nursing shifts if we’re lucky, like 6-6 or 9-9. Sometimes it can get really hectic and we’ll have sixteen to nineteen hour days. They’re usually filled with filming, pre-recording, and dance rehearsal but never in the same order.

Q: “Tell us more about Struck By Lightning! IMDb has it listed as 2012, has production started? As both writer and star, are you excited to see it become reality?” – Caitlin R. (19, Richmond, Virginia)
A: It’s the most exciting and the most terrifying thing I’ve ever done. It’s very strange to be so active behind the camera (taking meetings, making calls, etc.). I held a meeting in my trailer once during the Rocky Horror episode, so I was in complete Riff-Raff make-up. I don’t think anyone took me seriously. We have an amazing team working on the movie. David Permut is producing (Youth in Revolt, Charlie Bartlett) and Brian Dannelly is directing (Saved!). We’re casting my character’s parents right now (which feels like reverse adoption) and we start filming the day after my last stop on the Glee 2011 tour. I wrote it for the kids in high school who are overachieving in their own right and underappreciated for it, just like I was.

Q: “If diet Coke stopped production, what would be your next go-to drink?” – Beatrice C. (15, Singapore)
A: Why would you even propose such a horrible thing? I suppose I’d have to try water.

Q: “Ryan Murphy has spoken about how the original cast will eventually be replaced, what was your reaction to that news? And have you thought about what you would like to possibly move into, like Broadway, television, movies or release an album?” – Tiarni C. (23, NSW, Australia)
A: I thought graduating characters off would add a very real element to the show. I don’t think I’ll be leaving anytime soon since I’m supposed to be the youngest in the club and I’m the youngest in real life, but you never know! Maybe Kurt will take an internship at a fashion institute or fall down an elevator shaft. Anything is possible… As for the future I’m kind of all over the place right now but mostly headed into a film direction. I’ll definitely do something on Broadway eventually, if people aren’t sick of me by then.

Q: “OK. So let’s talk musicals – Broadway, Off-Broadway, International, any kind from anywhere. In which would you, Chris, most like to perform, and in which do you think Kurt would most like to perform?” – David F. (32, Cape Town, South Africa)
A: I would love to do Next to Normal and I think Kurt would campaign for an all male cast of Wicked… which I’m pretty sure I’d consider doing too, not gonna lie.

Q: “What do you think you would be doing now if you weren’t on Glee?” – Cassie (13, Connecticut)
A: Probably fighting against the restraints of my straitjacket and bouncing off the padded walls of my cell. Other than that I honestly have no idea. I was in college when I was cast in Glee, so maybe I would have transferred to UCLA or CAL State Fullerton by now…or maybe I’d still be terrorizing Clovis, CA with my big ideas and high voice. It’s fun to think about.

Q: “Do you plan to study in college after Glee is over, or do you feel that being on Glee given you enough skills for your future acting career that you don’t need a degree?” – Anastasia N. (20, St. Petersburg, Russia)
A: I’ve decided if I go back to school it won’t be for acting, it’ll be to become a Disney Imagineer. I’ve never had an acting lesson but I’ve learned so much just by watching other actors. There are certain movies that I’ll go see just to watch certain people in them. That’s the best education you can get in my opinion.

Q: “What was your first big purchase after the success of Glee?” – Jessica R. (25, Canada)
A: A tax attorney.

Glee’s Big Night at the Golden Globes

Posted by Dani on Jan-17-2011 under Cast & Crew, Chris Colfer, Events, Jane Lynch, News, Videos

It was a big night for Glee last night at the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, CA as they took home awards for three of their five nominations. Chris Colfer was named Best Supporting Actor in TV and expressed his gratitude in a very memorable acceptance speech by saying, “I think I just dropped my heart between Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore so if anyone sees that, please give it back to me,” and by thanking “all the amazing kids who watch our show and the kids that our show celebrate who are constantly told no by the people in their environments, by bullies at school that they can’t be who they are, or have what they want because of who they are… well, screw that, kids!”

While talking to the media after his win, Chris referred to himself as a “Cinderfella” and explained that he was fully expecting Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family to win. In fact, co-star — and his date!Ashley Fink (who plays Lauren Zizes on Glee) had to push him up out of his seat to go accept his award because he was still in shock.

Jane Lynch secured the title of Best Supporting Actress in TV, joking in her acceptance speech that she was “nothing if not falsely humble,” going on to say she wanted to share the win with the “deranged young man” Ian Brennan, the mastermind writer behind all of Sue Sylvester’s dialogue before thanking her wife Laura and their two children.

For the second year in a row, Glee nabbed the Golden Globe for Best TV Series (Comedy or Musical) and the entire cast made their way to the stage to accept the award:

Speculations on Kurt’s Future Boyfriend: The Sam vs. Blair Controversy

Posted by Rob on Sep-23-2010 under Cast & Crew, Chris Colfer, Glee Episode Spoilers, Glee Guest Stars, News, Videos

Kurt HummelOne of the extremely hot topics among Gleeks right now is the debate over who will be Kurt Hummel’s future boyfriend. I think we can all agree that after all he’s been through, he deserves to find love. The real question is who will it be with. In this post I’m going to both summarize and theorize on who I think it will be, and I hope that you will do the same in the comments section below, because that’s what it’s there for. We want to know what you guys think, too!

First of all, the idea of Kurt getting a boyfriend originated way back in January when the online casting call concept was still green-lit. Ryan Murphy was quoted by Ausiello as saying, “We’re going to make them a power couple. We’re not going to do the whole hiding in the shadows thing. We’re going to make them popular, and out and proud and glamorous. Like prom king and king. We’re doing the opposite of what’s been done.” Later that month, Ausiello cryptically revealed that the character would also be on the football team. The most convincing bit of evidence that Sam was, at least at one point, planned to be Kurt’s boyfriend is this: long before Chord Overstreet had been cast, Chris Colfer revealed to a fan that the name of Kurt’s boyfriend would be Sam. (Sorry you got in trouble, Chris!)

Chord OverstreetThe turning point where the cast became so tight-lipped about the subject (with a little coaching, I’m sure) was when the character Sam was officially announced through a press release from Fox stating that he would be played by Chord Overstreet. When briefly describing him, it said nothing of him potentially being a love interest for anyone, which we should have taken as the first sign. Almost instantly, the cast began to pull those famous “I don’t know!/They don’t tell us anything!/We don’t know until we get the scripts!” lines. You may have noticed that when Chris was asked about the boyfriend character having been casted yet at Glee‘s Academy Event, he stumbled thorough his response: “I don’t know if the person– I don’t know how to answer this question safely.” He then looked to the producers and instantly switched to a “No… I don’t know anything” response. It’s obvious that he was under the impression that Chord would be the boyfriend, but wasn’t exactly sure what he was allowed to say. (Poor Chris!) Could that much have really changed since July? This wouldn’t be the first time that Ryan Murphy has tried to keep us on our toes [read: lied to us] so that a future plotline wouldn’t be prematurely revealed.

The most recent bean-spilling was done by Jane Lynch, who obviously missed the ‘mum’s the word’ briefings. When E!’s Mark Malkin asked about the character, she replied “”They’ve cast him already… He becomes the new star quarterback and he’s going to be Kurt’s boyfriend.” Jane went on to describe him as “a good-looking kid… He’s tall, boyish, with straight blond hair and big fat, pouty lips.” Big fat, pouty lips? Yeah, she was definitely referring to Sam “Big Mouth” Evans, no doubt about it. In a TV Guide interview with Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer at the Emmys, Jane admits she later was told, “Don’t spill the beans on that!” to which she added, “Also, there may be no beans to spill.” However it could very well be possible that she just wasn’t up to date. The evidence is overwhelming that Sam was originally meant to be Kurt’s boyfriend, but now even I’m beginning to think it’s possible that they’ve changed the plan.

Now comes the real game changer: Blair. Who is that, you may be asking…? As revealed by TV Guide’s William Keck, the producers are now looking to cast a new character for the show’s 6th episode. Time wise, that means they would need to have started (if not completed) the casting hunt by now. The character, Blair, is described as “a gay high school junior” who is “masculine, sexy, charismatic and handsome…” He will become a recurring character who gets the opportunity to sing in multiple episodes, and here’s the kicker, is in a rival glee club. Very recently, an audition video surfaced online that is supposedly for the character Blair. [Edit: It has been announced that the name of the 6th episode is "Never Been Kissed," which is titled after a film sharing a very similar plot line to the 6th episode. This further confirms that this audition footage is legitimate.] The video features a relatively unknown actor by the name of Brian Hissong reading for the role of Blair. Remember that just because he’s reading it in the audition video does not mean that he has been cast. If they want to get the casting just right, the producers and casting agents would go through numerous audition videos before making a decision, and this may or may not have been the person they went/are going with.

NOTE: Do NOT watch this video if you do not want to be spoiled. It features very plot intensive lines that may or may not appear in the final script of the 6th episode.

The video was originally on YouTube before being “removed by the user,” however, it has been reuploaded on Chinese YouTube equivalent, YouKu. I went ahead and embedded it, but here’s no telling how long it will be before this one gets pulled as well.

From the video, we can deduce that Kurt goes undercover as “Billy” and infiltrates the opposing school’s glee club. Incognito, Kurt befriends Blair and his friends before eventually being discovered. But when Kurt believes that they are actually going to beat him up for spying, they reveal that they figured it out a while ago and found how bad a spy he was to be kind of “endearing.” It is then revealed that at Blair’s school, they do not bully people for being gay — a stark contrast to Kurt’s experiences in the halls of McKinley. When Blair explains that he is gay, Kurt talks about how hard it is being the only openly gay kid back at his own school. Then the whole thing gets a little too “after school special” for my taste with a serious little speech from Blair.

There’s a part of me that is praying that “Blair” is an extremely clever ploy to throw people off. People have been theorizing that Blair will be a couple episode character arc, while something with Sam could develop much later on. Back at Comic-Con 2010, Chris told Ausiello that he “heard they might be leaning towards another storyline more, which would delay that.” He then added that the new delay might be “provocative.” Could this speed bump along the way to love be a short-lived story arc with Blair? I’m hoping so. [Edit: It has been said that Quinn will somehow play a part in Kurt's future relationship, and the best theory is that Sam will be with her before an eventual relationship with Kurt.] For these reasons, Sam/Kurt fans shouldn’t lose hope just yet.

As of now, it appears that neither character fully describes the original plan for Kurt’s boyfriend. While Sam is on the football team, an early spoiler that may have since been trashed, he certainly doesn’t fit Ryan Murphy’s “out and proud” description. Murphy may have decided that Sam wasn’t the right character to be Kurt’s boyfriend, thus creating Blair. It wouldn’t be the first time that the producers have changed their minds about a character. (Did anyone else notice that the New Directions “family” took Matt Rutherford’s transfer surprisingly well?) At this point, it looks like Sam as originally described doesn’t exist. I think Chord Overstreet is doing a great job with Sam right now, so I’m still praying that he turns out to be the one. (It looks like I’m not alone on that. Yay, Kistin!)

In “Audition,” they addressed how as the new guy, Sam isn’t comfortable with being too different just yet, therefore deciding against joining New Directions (for now). Maybe this insecurity about being different goes a lot deeper than we see in the Season 2 premiere; or maybe not. It’s anyone’s guess at this point, so what’s yours?

Chord Overstreet Joins “Glee” as Sam

Posted by Rob on Jul-26-2010 under Cast & Crew, Chris Colfer, Glee Guest Stars, News

Update [9/23]: Click here to read about the controversy over whether or not Sam Evans, played by Chord Overstreet, will become Kurt’s future boyfriend.

Chord OverstreetThe long awaited casting decision for Kurt’s boyfriend, Sam, has finally been revealed. The character which has, in the past, been described as Kurt’s potential boyfriend will be played by Chord Overstreet, who is still fairly new on the acting scene. He’s had a couple guest starring roles in shows such as iCarly and the upcoming No Ordinary Family, but Sam should be his biggest role to date. It’s been announced that he will appear in the season-premiere, and Glee co-producer Dante Di Loreto has confirmed via Twitter that he’ll be in “some early new episodes” of Season 2.

In a recent Comic-Con interview with Michael Ausiello, the cast had a few things to say about the upcoming storyline. “Actually, I’ve heard that they might be leaning towards another storyline which would delay that,” Chris Colfer tells Ausiello. “I’ve heard that it might be provocative, though.” Amber speculated, “He may still find love, but he may not have a boyfriend.” Kevin said, “I want to see a boyfriend, though,” which the rest of the cast collectively agreed with. “I think we all do,” Jenna added.

We didn’t know too much about Sam before, but we did know that he’s supposed to be an openly gay football player at McKinley who eventually becomes Kurt’s love interest in the show. Fox’s latest press release has added that he starts off as a sort of protégé to Finn, but eventually becomes his competition. Could this be the storyline which causes the delay for the character’s budding romance with Kurt? Possibly.

To find out more about Chord, visit his IMDB page, check out his MySpace (with a song likely sung by his father), or catch him in the online web series, Private.
